What BYE is
What is Build Your Exit?
BYE is an online planning service for building something of your own. You tell it about your skills, your time and what you want. It writes a plan around your real week. You can start free, buy a personal Starter Plan, or join membership for help to follow it. It’s your own business, run your way. There’s nothing to buy from BYE to sell on, no one to sign up, and BYE takes no cut of your sales.
What isn’t BYE?
BYE isn’t a person, a coach or a course. It doesn’t do the work for you, and it doesn’t promise a result or an income. It gives you a plan, tools and practical steps. It doesn’t give legal, tax or financial advice.
Who built BYE?
Ronnie built BYE alongside his own job. He saw that many people have skills someone would pay for and no plan for using them. He wanted a plan that starts free, fits around your real week and changes when life does.
How it’s different
How is BYE different from a course or programme?
BYE isn’t a video course. There are no pre-recorded lectures or motivational talks: just your plan, practical tasks and tools that use your own information.
You don’t pay up front to start. The questions, your letter and your first card are free.

Is BYE a coach or a mentor?
No. BYE isn’t a person. Its weekly check-in is software, not a conversation. If you want a human to talk to every week, a coach may suit you better.
Is this a template I fill in myself?
No. BYE writes your Starter Plan from what you tell it about your idea, your hours and your circumstances. The tools use your own information, not generic worksheets. You still check the details and do the steps.
Is BYE just an AI chatbot?
No. BYE is a planning system. It follows a step-by-step approach to testing and growing a small business, with its own rules. It keeps your answers, hours, figures and check-ins, and builds your plan from them using its own steps.
The only part of BYE that uses AI is Ask BYE, for members, when it’s available. It uses Claude, run in the EU, and your questions and answers aren’t used to train AI models. Answers can be wrong, so check anything important. You can use the rest of BYE without it.
Why not just plan it myself?
You can. BYE is for when you’d rather not work out the steps alone. It works them out from your answers and writes them around your real week. With membership it checks in every week, so the plan changes when life does. Whether that is worth it is your choice.
How it works
How do I start, and what is free?
Answer the free questions about yourself. BYE gives you a letter and your first card. You don’t need a payment card. You can stop there and keep them, or decide whether you want a plan.
What happens if I decide to buy?
Choose the option that suits you and pay on a secure checkout page. Your receipt comes by email. Then you answer more questions about your ideas and your week, and BYE writes your plan from your answers.
What do I get in the Starter Plan?
A personal plan online, with a printable PDF when it’s available. It includes a month-by-month plan, a detailed start, a toolkit, worksheets, your cards and help for when things don’t go to plan. It stays as written. Your Starter Plan stays yours unless the payment that supplied it is refunded.
What does membership add?
Your dashboard, a weekly check-in with a nudge and “Add to my calendar”, and every BYE tool. Membership helps you follow your plan and change it as life changes. Ask BYE and the monthly redraw are included when they’re available. Membership is for adults.
Do I need membership?
No. Your plan is yours to keep without it. Membership helps you follow your plan and change it as life changes.
How does the weekly check-in work?
Open My plan and tell BYE how your week went. Your answer shapes your next steps. If a week goes by without one, BYE sends a short reminder by email, which you can turn off. When the monthly redraw is available, BYE also proposes changes from what you recorded. You choose whether to use them, and you can undo a change.
Is it for me?
Who might find BYE useful?
BYE may suit you if you have a skill, a trade, a craft or a service that people already ask you about, or something you’d like to try, and you want a plan made around your real life. It doesn’t matter whether you work, study, are retired, care for someone at home or are between jobs. It isn’t a fit if you want a promised income or a quick result. Membership is for adults.
Do I need a business idea already?
No. Your plan can start from your skills and experience, and help you find an idea that fits. If you already have an idea, bring it. BYE turns it into practical next steps and helps you gather evidence as you learn.
How many people start a business each year?
Millions. In the US, more than 5 million applications to start a business are filed every year. Official figures count about 3.5 million new businesses a year in the EU, and hundreds of thousands more in the UK and Australia. Many small sole traders never appear in those figures at all. You could be one of them. When you’re ready, BYE helps you plan yours and take the first steps.
Don’t most new businesses fail?
No. In the UK, the US, the EU, Canada and Australia, official figures show at least 3 in 4 new businesses still going a year later, and about half or more after three years. A closure isn’t always a failure: some owners retire or move on. BYE starts you small, with a 30-day plan built from what you already have. It can’t promise a result: you still do the work.
I’ve started things before and stopped. Is BYE for me?
You can start from where you are now. BYE gives you one small step at a time, based on your answers. Members have a weekly check-in and can ask for a lighter week (see the hard-week question for what that covers). You still do the work, and BYE can’t promise what will come of it.
What if my idea doesn’t work?
Not every idea works, and BYE can’t promise that yours will. That is why your plan starts with a small, low-cost test, to gather evidence before you put more in.
If an idea doesn’t hold up, members can start a new idea. Your figures, your situation and your weeks worked stay, and so do your past check-ins. Your current plan, the evidence you gathered and your Starter Plan work are set aside, where you can still read them. Answers that were about the old idea are marked out of date, and you confirm what is still true.
A few things are cleared, because they only made sense for the old idea: an unfinished check-in draft, suggestions you turned down, your next-action suggestion and your stage progress. Starting another idea closes your current week without counting it, so finish your check-in first if you are part-way through one. The reset is included in membership.
You only wait before starting another idea if you have already reset once.
Time and everyday use
How much time do I need?
You tell BYE what time you have when you make your plan, and your steps are written around those hours. You can change them later. Nothing promises a result in a set amount of time. Start with what fits your life.
What if I have a hard week?
Members can tell BYE it was a hard week, in any month of their plan. Depending on what is left of that week, BYE offers a lighter week, which keeps one session and skips the others, or a pause, which skips them all. It doesn’t count against you. This changes the week’s tasks. It doesn’t cancel your membership.
Can I use BYE on my phone?
Yes. BYE works in your browser, on a phone or a laptop. Use whichever is easier for you.
Paying, cancelling and refunds
What does BYE cost?
Starting is free. The Starter Plan is paid once, with no subscription. Membership is paid monthly or yearly. The prices section shows what each option costs in your currency where available, what it includes and any tax that applies.
What is the difference between monthly and yearly membership?
You get the same membership either way. Yearly includes your Starter Plan. If you choose monthly and don’t already own the Starter Plan, you pay for it with your first membership payment. The prices section shows your total before you choose.
Can I cancel, and what do I keep?
Yes. Open Membership and billing and choose Cancel membership. BYE shows what changes before you finish, and emails you before each renewal. Cancelling stops further payments, and your access carries on until the end of the time you’ve paid for. Afterwards you can still read your work and ask for a copy, but you can’t add to it. Your Starter Plan stays yours unless the payment that supplied it is refunded.
Can I get a refund?
The Refund and Cancellation Policy explains the withdrawal period and how to ask. You can email BYE or use the refund control in Purchases. If you asked for immediate access, a deduction may apply for what was supplied. The rules depend on what you bought, and stopping renewal is different from asking to withdraw. If something doesn’t work as described, contact BYE.
Your Starter Plan stays yours unless the payment that supplied it is refunded. If you also have access through another purchase or a membership, refunding one purchase doesn’t remove that access.
What happens when my plan’s period ends?
Your Starter Plan stays yours unless the payment that supplied it is refunded. It doesn’t run out. Membership carries on while you keep renewing, and you can stop renewal at any time. BYE doesn’t promise a new plan for the next period. You decide what to do next.
Your data and AI
What does AI do, and can it be wrong?
BYE builds your plan from your answers with its own steps and rules. The only part of BYE that uses AI is Ask BYE, for members, when it’s available. It uses Claude, run in the EU. If Ask BYE can’t produce an answer, you get a shorter one built from fixed rules. The monthly redraw, when it’s available, uses rules, not AI.
BYE doesn’t use your questions, your answers or what you save to train AI models. AI can be incomplete or wrong, so check anything important before you act on it. Ask BYE won’t tell you whether to change or leave your job, and it doesn’t give legal, tax or financial advice.
How does BYE use my information?
BYE uses your information to run your account and give you its services. When Ask BYE is available, it sends your question and the planning details the answer needs, such as your stage and your weekly hours. It never sends your wellbeing answers. Nothing is posted or published for you. Payments go through a payment provider, so BYE never sees your card. The Privacy Policy and AI notice say what is shared, with whom and why.
Can I get a copy of my data or delete my account?
Yes. Ask in your account. A person carries it out. Closing your account removes your answers, your saved figures and your account. BYE keeps records of what you paid, because tax law requires it. If you ask for a copy as well, BYE sends it before closing the account. Until it’s done, you can change your mind. Closing your account is separate from cancelling your membership.
Your work
Do I have to change my work or leave my job?
No. BYE never tells you to leave a job or change what you do now. If you have a job, keeping it is a good outcome. If you work for yourself, study, are retired, care for someone at home or are between jobs, BYE starts from where you are. BYE shows what your own figures say. The decision stays yours.
Can BYE advise me about tax or the law?
No. BYE doesn’t give tax, legal or financial advice. The money tools are templates to help you keep records. Ask your tax office, an accountant or a qualified legal adviser about your own situation. Don’t put confidential information about an employer, a customer or anyone else into Ask BYE.
